Sun Peaks Kennels is dedicated to providing the best experience for you and your pets. Our facility offers a climate controlled building with in-floor heating and cooling system. There are four 4' x 16' runs with indoor/outdoor access in addition to one 8' x 16' run with indoor/outdoor access. Each family’s dog has their own private run. Dogs from the same family can be kennelled together or separately according to their family’s preference. All dogs go for a long adventure walk daily in addition to shorter walks both in the morning and evening. The adventure walk can range from a visit to the creek on the property, a hike in the summer, or snowshoeing around the property in the winter. The dogs have access to their outdoor run all day, at night the outdoor portions of the run are locked up.
Dogs from multiple families may be walked on leashes together, so please let us know if your dog has any behavioural issues towards other dogs and we can adjust accordingly. Only dogs from the same family enjoy off leash play time together.
Please message us if you would like a tour of our facility.
To keep your dog and other dogs healthy while they are staying with us the following is required:
Vaccines must be up-to-date and been given at least 4 weeks prior to being kennelled.
A Distemper Parvo Virus combo (Due every 1-3 years depending on the vaccine manufacturer, and your veterinarian's recommendation).
Rabies (Due every 3 years once the vaccine has been boosted after 1 year or your veterinarian's recommendation).
Bordetella/Kennel Cough (Due every 1 year)
We do not accept dogs under 5 months of age as puppies on a routine vaccination schedule will not be fully vaccinated until 4 months of age.
Dogs will need to be dewormed for internal parasites (i.e. Roundworms) year round and external parasites (Fleas and ticks) during the summer months. This needs to be done at least 2 weeks prior to being kennelled (the Center for Disease Control recommends deworming your pet for internal parasites every 3 months). The topical products Revolution and Advantage Multi do internal and external parasites. The products Strongid and Dolpac do internal parasites only. The products Nexgard and Bravecto do external parasites only.
Please obtain your pet's health/vaccination certification from your veterinarian and email this to us 2 weeks prior to your pet's visit with us.
Please keep dogs on leash or in your vehicle until we can check them in.

Kelly is a Registered Veterinary Technician with over 20 years of experience in her field. Once her son was born, she decided it was time to have a change of pace. Together with her husband Peter, Sun Peaks Kennels became a reality. On their 160 acre property only 20 minutes from Sun Peaks Ski Resort, they have built a facility that will keep your pets comfortable and safe during their doggy vacation in the mountains.
We are well equipped to provide a high level of care for both dogs with medical issues and of course healthy dogs too! The majority of Kelly's Veterinary Technician career has been in Specialty and Emergency Veterinary Small Animal Practice in Vancouver B.C. Kelly’s experience is in high demand and she still does occasional relief work for three veterinary clinics in Kamloops. You can be rest assured that any medical issues that may come up with your pets while they are staying with us will be dealt with in a quick and professional manner.
Peter is a Tourism Management graduate and avid skier, so if you have any questions about Sun Peaks Ski Resort or other ski areas in B.C. and Alberta, he is the man to ask. Together they are raising their son, five dogs (4 Dachshunds and 1 Red Heeler), and 2 cats in the beautiful Heffley Louis-Creek Valley.
